One day public Conference on FOSS, Hanoi, Nov. 14
"Drive for change, deploy your own FOSS strategy for outreach and business"
More than 80 IT experts gathered at "Drive for change", a conference on Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) held at Horison Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam, carried out as part of the FOSS-Bridge EU-Vietnam initiative.
"Deploy your own FOSS Strategies for outreach and business" is the main message of this one-day public event - a unique opportunity for decision makers, managers and ‘Free and Open-Source Software' advocates to discover the values of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) for Vietnam and learn about the results of FOSS-Bridge EU-Vietnam.
"Drive for change" featured a range of experts from Europe and Asia, who are giving up-to-date background information on Free and Open Source software usage in Vietnam and Europe, as well as key ideas on how to deploy organizational FOSS strategy in Vietnam. This event was also a chance for delegates of enterprises and intermediaries to receive advanced training material on opening new businesses based on Free and Open Source Software.
This conference was the culminating point of the initiative FOSS-Bridge EU-Vietnam, which has been promoting Southeast Asian software industries and cooperation with Europe through innovative collaboration on FOSS and business development since 2007.
Among the participants : 20 FOSS-Bridge trainees coming from the Intermediaries, 40 SMEs and 15 partners of SMEs.

Conference Concept & Program
Presentation : An event of the "Foss Bridge EU-Vietnam" network bringing together key organizations promoting FOSS, IT companies engaged in FOSS and their partners and customers. This day intends to provide participants with up-to-date background information on Free, Libre and Open Source software usage in Vietnam and Europe, as well as key ideas to deploy it’s own F/OSS strategy in Vietnam.
Target audience : around 100 attendees are expected, including developers, project managers, IT managers, and decisions makers coming from Vietnamese Intermediaries and SMEs. The Vietnamese and European companies who participated to the matchmaking workshops in November 2007 and June 2008 will also be invited to attend.
Program committee : the program committe includes the FOSS-Bridge management team, the trainer and participants from the previous training workshops organized in April and June 2008.

Location : Horison Hotel, Hanoi
In the framework of the FOSS-Bridge Intermediary Training, a third training activity will be organized.
This last stage of the Intermediary Training has a double objective :
- Enabling Intermediaries of vietnamese IT sector to spread key knowledge on how to create business based of FOSS.
- Fostering a vietnamese software industry capable of providing localised FOSS applications and services to government and businesses with SMEs serving as the national driver of technological innovation.
Workshop concept:
During the previous April and June intermediary FOSS-Bridge workshops, the attendees have worked together with trainers on defining personal projects relating to raising F/OSS awareness in Vietnam.
This last intermediary-training workshop will be based on supporting those projects.
During the workshop, the FOSS-Bridge team and participants will work only on selected projects. All participants of the previous FOSS-Bridge intermediary trainings are invited to contribute to one of the selected projects. The week will be dedicated to the adaptation and appropriation of the Training material and the preparation of the public conference of nov. 14 (more details above).
